Even If God Does Not Come Through

Even If God Does Not Come Through

I was listening to “Even If” by Mercy Me. If you have not heard this song, I strongly suggest that you listen to it. The song describes the reality of the moments when it seems likes God does not come through for us.

The first time I heard this song was at my uncle’s funeral a few years ago. He fought for his life and was hospitalized. Even after released from the hospital and it seemed like he had recovered, he died in his home. The funeral was devastating because I could not understand why God will take a father and husband away from his wife and teenage daughter.

There are also several instances in my life where I did not get my dream job or lost a relationship I cherished and wondered where God was in the midst of my pain. Despite the pain I have felt in my life, there is something refreshing about the “even if” theory.

Even if God does not heal us, even if we face tough situations, even if we remain unemployed, even if our spouse files for divorce, even if we are heart broken, God is with us. And honestly, this is so hard to hear especially in the midst of storms. But I hope you find solace in knowing that God is with you and he will never forsake you even when it seems like your prayers are not being heard.

There will be moments where it seems like God has abandoned you, but you have to trust that even in the silence, He is still there. Even in the brokenness, he is still
there.

Here’s a story from the Bible that I think has an even if lesson that we can draw from.

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied to him, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.” Daniel 3:16-18 (New International Version)

In this verse, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stood firm on the fact that God is God even if he does not perform a miracle and save them from the fire. This verse will always be powerful to me because of the faith of these three men. They were ready to die even if God did not save them. They believed that even in death and pain, God is still God and His word is true.

I encourage you to hold on to this belief that God is still God even if the miracles you are praying for does not happen.
