Five Ways To Recover From Burnouts

The year is finally coming to an end! Yay! The typical thing to do at the end of the year, is to try to finish up on all you had planned to do in the course of the year, if you are yet to. To enable you enter the year on a clean slate. While this is a good thing, sometimes, it can get out of hand. As people tend to choke themselves with a lot of work and activities, just so they meet the required target or goals for the year. Thus, experiencing a burnout. 

Burnout occurs when the physical, mental, and psychological aspect of a person is stressed for a long period of time, to the point that exertion takes a toll on your body and mind. Such that you feel disconnected, tired, fatigued, and worn out. During this, your brain and body experience high levels of stress. And when not managed properly, exhaustion takes over, leading to emotional and physical burnout. Symptoms associated with burnout include lack of motivation, lower productivity, self doubt, low self-esteem, detachment, and emotional exhaustion.

Although burnout is not an official medical diagnosis, we cannot deny its existence. Over the years, the rising rate of workers experiencing burnout has increased. Hence, it is becoming necessary for companies and individuals to create the awareness needed to help curb the emotional and physical exhaustion. But that is not to say that, if you are already in the rut, there is no hope. There is hope! Just stick with me to the end.

  1. Identify your stressors: Burnout is common in professional environments, academic fields, and also in relationships. The first step you need to take to recover from burnouts is identifying your stressors. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to make changes when you do not know exactly what needs to change. So, in order to actually bounce back physically and emotionally, you have to know what is causing the exhaustion. Then, take the right steps leading to your recovery. 
  1. Set and enforce boundaries: If you are not capable of doing a task, chore, or assignment at a particular time, it is okay to say no. Many people struggle to say no when being asked to take on extra work, even when not in the space for it. Endeavour to always set and enforce boundaries in various aspects of your life. This will save you from the risk of burnouts
  1.  Engage in tasks that you enjoy: Engaging in tasks or activities you enjoy or makes you happy helps reduce stress levels. It also aids bonding with yourself. 
  1. Connect with others: Avoid isolation! Do not feel weak leaning on others in times like this.There is no shame in talking to friends or family, or seeking help from a trained coach. Connecting with others professionally or personally assists in easing stress and strengthening unity with those around you.
  1. Ensure you take various types of rest: It is sad that people do not value rest as they should. To perform optimally, you need rest. time and take up a new health and wellness trend. If your work or school activities are a lot, it is wise you take vacation days often, to spend quality time with your friends and family. The body can handle only so much. 

Burnouts are a lot. Although, if handled properly can turn out advantageous. Just be mindful about recovering. And soon, you will be in the best of health.
