Deep Thoughts: The Day The World Was Loved

I went hunting for an Easter card and just couldn’t find any. This threw me off because I remember back in the days –was it really so far off – when Easter was such a big deal; the solemnity, the Easter eggs, the stations of the cross, the showing of the Crucifixion both on TV and acted live on the streets, and so much more. I don’t know what has happened, this year the Easter week has been almost like every other day, the supermarkets were same, TV was filled with either news on GOP elections, the news of looters of the national treasury or the lack of fuel and power.

I personally saw Easter as an opportunity for rest from work and I looked forward to these public holidays without looking deeper into the significance of what it all meant. I wonder what happened to me and maybe the rest of the world or is it just my imagination that these things that had previously held so much value are now losing their vitality, is it the changing times or I may just be looking at life through the lenses of an aged mind? However this is not acceptable and I have taken the time to slow down, taking a step back into the past in remembrance of who I am, where I come from and what this day means to me, to the world. Its significance sadly almost got discarded by me.

In the depths of memories of times past, I saw it all again;

On a hill far away a man gave it all;

All His love and took it all –

Brokenness, suffering, shame –

For me, for you, for the world

Twas such a day never to be forgotten

Where the greatest sacrifice was presented

On this day, love was given unrestrained

Unbridled, springing forth to envelop the whole world

A day upon a cross on that lone hill

Jesus died for all

The day the world was loved

A Good Friday

Happy Easter Folks! Jaa Mata!
