When You Do Not Feel Like Going To Church

It is not every Sunday that a believer would feel like attending service or church. There are some Sundays where all you will want to do is avoid going to worship with the brethren. If that is you, stop beating yourself up about it. Almost every Christian has been there. The lack of desire to attend church is not an unnatural one. There are so many factors that lead to this decision. Such as exhaustion, working on weekends, church hurt, and spiritual and physical struggles. Nevertheless, when we become Christians, we are adopted into another family entirely. Hence, our wants and desires begin to align with the new family. And one of those desires as God’s own is consistent fellowship with your spiritual brothers and sisters.

Just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will,

Ephesians 1:4‭-‬5 NKJV

Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:25 NKJV

Furthermore, going to church is an act of worship. It is more than just showing up sometimes or when you feel like it. It involves choosing to offer a sacrifice of time, effort, service, and worship every time you are in fellowship. Also, your presence might be all the difference another struggling soul needs to heal and grow.

You do not feel like attending service? Here are some reasons why you should reconsider and still attend:

  1. You will not grow alone: Fellowship works pari passu with spiritual growth. You will not grow alone; you need continuous fellowship with the brethren to achieve tangible gain in your walk with God. And how does it happen? By going to church. You need the church to grow, learn, and be established in the faith.

And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.

  1. It is an act of worship: Going to church is not about you, it is about God. It is how we worship and revere him. It is a corporate experience where the main focus is God. So, anytime you do not feel like attending, shift the focus and you will understand why you should.
  1. God demands it: As Christians, it is our duty to keep the Sabbath day holy. And keeping the Sabbath day holy requires meeting together on Sundays to worship God and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Strength and hope also abound when we are in the midst of other believers, as we get to see their faith, hear their experiences and learn from each other.

Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8‭-‬11 NKJV

  1. The church teaches, inspires, and uplifts: The church instructs and offers guidance on how be true worshippers and followers of God. Seeking to improve your spirituality or learn how to live better lives through God’s word? Then, the church is for you. Here, you can also be uplifted by the faith and testimony of fellow believers.

God deserves to be the center of our lives irrespective of feelings. If he commands it, then, it is good as done. God admonishes us to “never forsake the assembling of brethren.” I think it is in our favor to listen to Him.
