When God Seems Silent

In moments of challenges and sufferings, God may appear silent and far away. We hope to receive answers through prayer, faith, and even Bible study. And somehow, it is impossible. Nothing seems to change or be working. In such situations, it is common to develop a sense of isolation, hopelessness, and dejection.

God’s silence does not imply that He has abandoned you. He is standing next to you. Everything you are going through is only a test of your faith. As God has vowed never to put us through a test that is too great for us to handle. We just must put our faith and trust in His unchanging word.

No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what ye are able, but with the temptation will also make the way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

1st Corinthians 10:13 NKJV

The scripture also says:

If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

Proverbs 24:10 NKJV

Therefore, your victory depends on where you stand.

For today’s article, I will be highlighting the things we can do when it seems God is silent. Basically, this post is geared towards helping you understand that God has not left you even when He appears not to answer you. Even in His silence, there is strength and assurance. He knows you will overcome every trial or temptation. He knows what He has prepared you for and how much you’ve learnt at His feet.

They are:

  1. Assess your walk with God: When everything seems to be at a standstill, check where you stand with God. There might be spiritual hindrances standing in the way of experiencing God’s presence. As such, God’s silence is a way to show us how to make our ways right with Him. That is why Apostle Paul said:

Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? – unless you are disqualified.

2 Corinthians 13:5 NKJV
  1. Allow your spirit to connect to God: Just because you cannot hear does not mean God is not speaking. There are times when our spirit gets choked up with worries and fear that we fail to hear or sense God’s voice. Allow God to speak to you through His word and maintain a calm spirit.
  2. Recognize that God’s ways are different from ours: Many people feel they can pressure God to address their situation. Whether He shows up or not, He remains God. God can do whatever He chooses to do, so we should always appreciate Him for His tender mercies and prompt answers.
  3. Do not give up on God! Never stop praying because you feel that God has forsaken you or left you to yourself. This is even the perfect time to keep pressing towards your answers because God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. God’s silence is not an indication to withdraw from Him; it is a period to draw closer to Him.

Silence on God’s part does not mean that He has changed. He remains the same and He will come through for you, no matter what. If you keep trusting Him, your victory is certain.
