Six Brilliant Ways You Can Spend Time With God This Christmas

Christmas is here again!!! To put it another way, the favorite holiday of the year is upon us. But let’s get honest for a second here! Inasmuch as Christmastime brings a lot of fun, food, sharing and caring, and family with it, it can get a bit overwhelming and exhausting. And in such moments, there is a tendency for Christians to deviate from its true significance or meaning. Okay!! So what is the significance of Christmas?

Christmas is an annual holiday celebrated by Christians and even non-Christians alike to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. It signifies God’s love and grace for mankind.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

John 3:16 NKJV

The fall of man into sin at the Garden of Eden necessitated the need for a Saviour to be born to deliver the world from sin. And God saw it fit to send his Son to free us from this sin, as it was punishable by death and great suffering (Genesis 2:17,  Romans 6:23).

But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 2:17 NKJV

Essentially, Christmastime is actually a time set apart to celebrate, marvel, and glorify God. For choosing to send his Son to free us from the bondage or sin and death. Hence, it is a time where we ought draw nearer to God in the Spirit of praise, awe, honor, and worship.

Here are some ways you can still spend time with God despite the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season:

  1.  Start your day with God: Do not be keen to rush out of the house to avoid the queue. Even when there is still shopping trips to make or cooking to be done, endeavour to start you days activities with Him. Show God how much you understand and value what He has done for mankind.

  1. Study God’s word: This does not have to be done the traditional way. You can play an audio Bible or podcast during a drive to the mall or while clearing the dishes. And in a matter of minutes, you have had a quality time with God. Thus, empowering you for all the other task ahead.

  1. Go for a Bible retreat: Now that I think about it, it makes sense that most churches go for retreats in December. How can we fully grasp the significance of Christmas, if we do not spend time with God and the people He loves. It is impossible! The  Bible admonishes us not to forsake the assembly of the brethren.
  1. Pray and meditate: You can choose to separate yourself in fasting and meditation during Christmastime too. It will open you up to deeper revelations of what the season entails and your spirit will be whole and renewed through this act.
  1. Share and care: Show me a better way to spend time with God and represent Him than sharing and caring during Christmas. Christmas emphasizes the love God has for mankind. Therefore,  It is only right that we seek to please Him by reciprocating that love to fellow mankind. It shows where our heart is.

Building a relationship with God and spending time with Him is a continuous process, irrespective of seasons and times. So, do well to always put God in everything, even the big holidays. Remember, you can always get the best of God by spending time with Him.
