Top Items To Bring Along For Your Water Baptism Experience

Last year, this time, I remember that all I could think about was my fast-approaching water baptism. Here is the gist! I had been stalling getting baptized by immersion for as long as possible. This is because I am aquaphobic. Hence, I secretly feared that all would go wrong if I partook in this spiritual exercise. But when a pop-up class to prepare those not baptized yet, was scheduled, I decided to grab the opportunity by the horn. I know your next question is; did I regret it? mMy answer is a big NO!!!!

For a clearer understanding of why my water baptism turned out not to be a dreadful experience. But brought spiritual and physical good to me, instead. Let us take a look at what water baptism is

Water baptism is a scriptural exercise that symbolizes Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. Entering the water represents the beginning of a relationship with Jesus Christ. Here, we come with all our bad habits, mindsets and behaviors, hoping and trusting that God will use this activity to wrought a spiritual transformation in our lives.

The act of immersion is symbolic. Essentially, it portrays a willingness to yield our lives to God’s authority. Furthermore, it is an act of faith, love, obedience and vulnerability.

Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.”

‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Picking up where I left off in my story. It turned out that the water baptism experience caused a dramatic turnaround in my life and the lives of many. Lives were changed, bodies were healed, and the Holy Spirit came down. It was indeed a wonderful experience and I urge you to consider partaking of the exercise if you are yet to or new to the faith.

Well, if I have convinced you enough or you have already been contemplating it for a while, here are the personal items you will need to make the experience stress-free and wholesome:

  1. Dark clothing: The last thing you want, is being a source of distraction in such an important spiritual event as this. It is advisable to come to your water baptism with dark clothes. Because once you are in water, your cloth is automatically a see-through item. And an easy way to avoid exposure is by wearing dark clothes. Endeavor to be decent to yours, as a water baptism event is a decent and godly affair.
  1. Towel: This is the first item to put in the bag when planning for the big day. Water baptism involves water. It is just common knowledge to carry a towel to clean up after the exercise. Want to avoid a mess or catching a cold after your water baptism? Carry a towel along.
  1. Bag for wet clothing: After immersion in water, you will need to change. Now, you do not want your wet clothes messing up items like your phone or books. So, it is vital that you carry an extra bag to put the wet clothes in when you have changed.
  1. Bible: Water baptism is not as inconsequential as most people see it to be. It is scriptural and important. Therefore, it is wise to spiritually prepare with God’s word before immersion. This way, it becomes easy for His transformative power to move through you.
  1. Change of clothes: Trust me, you do not want to go home in wet clothes after the exercise. It will not be a funny experience. Change of clothes are a necessary item to carry for these activities, if you want to avoid embarrassment and stress.

Water baptism is an experience every believer should crave for. However, to have a wholesome experience, it is impertinent that we consciously prepare for it.
