The best thing that can happen to anyone is accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior. That is salvation. It implies forsaking your carnal nature and following the ways of Christ. According to studentship.org.ng, salvation is experiencing new birth in Christ. It is a conscious decision to let go of your human nature and embrace God’s divine nature. For a Christian, it is a necessity. This is the only way to have a relationship with God, walk with purpose, and reign with Jesus forever. 

Salvation is important to a Christian due to the following reasons:

1. It is the only way to the Father (John 14:6).
2. It grants access to the Holy Spirit (John 16:7).
3. It empowers against sin (Romans 3:23-24).
4. It gives a new identity in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
5. It secures a relationship with God (John 17:3).

However, salvation is just the first step in a Christian’s faith journey. There are other requirements for a triumphant walk with God; one of which is a relationship with God. Having a solid and stable relationship with God is essential for a Christian. This is because living in an earthly world entail being prone to its challenges and sufferings. Hence, a solid relationship with God is the only way to overcome these challenges and rest in God’s love and grace.

On that note, I will be sharing the ways in which Christians can nurture their relationship with God in 2022.

1. Deeper understanding of God through His Word: The Bible clearly states that God is His Word (John 1:1). Therefore, a pathway to getting a clearer picture of who He is and what He is, is by searching the scriptures. What this is not, is ceremoniously opening of the Bible on Sundays. This requires commitment and dedication to knowing his heart. It is a longing to know and understand him better. Ways in which this can happen include daily studying of the bible, reading devotionals, and listening to messages and podcasts from believers. These are some of the ways that you can build a connection with His Spirit which leads to deeper revelations of Him. Consequently, fostering a solid relationship with Him.
2. Constant communication with God: An approach used in understanding people is by constant communication with them. This also applies to our relationships with God. It involves total dependence on His voice and leading. Constant communication is not praying only when in need of something. It is acknowledging His omnipresence, seeking His guidance, and putting God at the center of our lives. It is a prerequisite for nurturing a relationship with God. This is because it builds a base for trust and obedience to God and His Word.
3. Sharing The Good news: Evangelism is a proof of love and dedication to God. As Christians, our primary assignment is to bring other people to the knowledge of Christ. Therefore, spreading the Good news is one way of showing where your heart lies. It implies commitment to the instruction in Mark 16:15, “And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation”” (NIV). Furthermore, it is inappropriate to preach about what one does not know. Hence, a hunger for spreading the word of God will lead to an in-depth search of the nature of God thus culminating in a sturdy footing in Jesus.
