Ruth Series 4

It’s been days since they returned to Bethlehem, they had returned during the period of the barley harvest and yet Ruth was yet to find something suitable to do to fend for her mother-in-law. People seemed to distance themselves from her as they know she is a Moabite.

She sat across the only table they had in their hut of a house and stared at her mother-in-law as she could tell that the woman needed something to eat but there was nothing she could do. Then her stomach gave her up by making that funny sound that shows that your stomach is empty.

“Ruth, I have a kinsman from the family of my late husband’s, he is a very wealthy man, and his name is Boaz”

Ruth gave her mother-in-law a glare trying to get why her mother-in-law was talking about an unknown kinsman. Naomi caught the glare her daughter-in-law gave her and explained further.

“He has a big field where you can glean corn from and I am sure he is a nice man and he won’t stop you from gleaning in his field.”

Ruth was out of the door with her basket in a nick of time.

Naomi smiled as she looked at her daughter-in-law run out the door.

Ruth on getting to the field met with some of the workers that supervised the field and pleaded that she is allowed to glean after the reapers among the sheaves.

As the other women gleaned in the field, Ruth joined them

Boaz went about his usual inspections of his field that afternoon and as he usually does he shouted at the reapers

“The Lord be with you” and they replied “The Lord bless you”

His eyes suddenly went to Ruth, his heart skipped a bit and he took interest in her,  “why would such a pretty lady be going through such strenuous activity?” he thought to himself. He then asked his servant “Who is this beautiful damsel”
