LESSONS FROM MY SHOE

LESSONS FROM MY SHOE

So I decided to wear heels to church today for the first time in a long time (was forced to wear heels at STM’s launching, heels are not my favourite). Upon opening the gate I had taken a few giant strides and suddenly I slipped. Ops! I was on my knees like I was going to propose. Thank God for my hand that was fast enough to hold me from falling face down. My first option was to go back to the house and keep the shoe and wait till the people who saw me had passed and then I heard a chuckle behind me. Not funny at all.

Did I also forget to say that there was a Catholic church right at the junction of my street and when I fell, I looked straight ahead saw a lot of people heading towards my direction, plus the laughter at the back? Chai!  I had always told my friends jokingly that if I fall down outside I would just gently lie on the floor, at this point turning back or lying down wasn’t an option for me as I was running late for service (Errrm a few minutes –as if that was not bad enough).

So I walked over to the other side of the street to meet the girls and asked

“Are you laughing at me?”

“No, we were laughing at something else” she replied

Well I wasn’t going to let them get off so easily I started laughing also and I boldly replied them

“Bear with me my sister, I haven’t worn heels to church in a long time and I must wear it today”

Who even told me I had to wear heels today? today was one of those days that I wanted to appear before my God smashing. This was our date. I also failed to mention that people were also trooping in from behind as they had to go for second mass.

Her voice interrupted my thought once more “Ehnn Look for bike now”

“I want to get used to walking with it from here so that when I get to church I can walk well from the gate inside” I replied her before she walked past me. Will I wear heels again, of course, yes!

So here are the lessons I learned;

STEP ONE: CONFRONT YOUR FEARS

My first option was to go back and then I forced myself to comfort my fears. Yes, people laughed but I learned a lesson and it added to my confidence. God has not given us the spirit of fear (2 Tim 1:7) is the scripture that comes to mind here. Now is the time to start that business or whatever stares down at you as a mountain.

STEP TWO: FALLING IS NOT FAILURE

Pro 24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked fall into mischief. That I feel didn’t mean that I couldn’t walk with it. If I had fallen in church, I would have laughed over it. As I sit in church now the choir sings “I won’t go back to the way I used to be” talk about lessons. So let me enjoy my church service Adieus!
