Improve Work Productivity With These Soft Skills

Adhering to all God commands is integral for a genuine walk with God. The book of Ecclesiastes paints a clear picture of how God feels about being productive at work (Ecclesiastes 9:11). 

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might, for in the realm of the dead, where you are going, there is neither working now planning nor knowledge nor wisdom.

Therefore, as Christians, it is important to prioritize excellence and productivity as it relates to the tasks assigned to us in the workplace.

WHAT IS WORK PRODUCTIVITY?

Work productivity refers to how much work a person achieves in a specific work setting, over a specific period of time. In simpler terms, it is the level of competence an individual puts into accomplishing certain tasks and goals in a work environment. Perks associated with work productivity are lesser worries, boosted performances, greater focus, less procrastination, and less distraction. 

As we all know, work productivity does not just happen. There are certain personal structures put in place to achieve that. Examples include hard skills, discipline, determination, and soft skills.

For today’s post, we will be taking a look at a set known as soft skills.

WHAT ARE SOFT SKILLS?

According to www.investopedia.com, soft skills are character traits and interpersonal skills that characterize a person’s relationship with other people. In other words, they are innate abilities that enhance relativity in any space. They are seen as complements to hard skills. Soft skills are a reflection of who a person is as opposed to how much the person knows. As a result, acquiring them might be tedious because it is a definite part of an individual’s personality.

Nevertheless, it is safe to say that everyone possesses the right amount of these skills. The issue is discovering and maximizing them for productivity and excellence at work.

Thus, I will be highlighting them for a better understanding of what they suggest. 

They are:

  1. Communication: In an organization, communication is more than uttering words or messaging. It refers to the instruments employed for effective conversations, meeting targets, and working together on partnerships. For effective labor, good communication is important in any work setting. As such, it is important to cultivate healthy practices around communication. 
  2. Critical Thinking: Critical thinking is the art of expertly administering, analyzing, gestating, and synthesizing information collated by either communication, observation, or experience. It entails applying innovative reasoning and caution to accomplish success. Critical thinking is a process that requires an employee to consider all parties before making decisions. Consequently, mistakes are avoided, and productivity is enhanced.
  3. Organization: In today’s dynamic workplace, this is a soft skill that enables you to function productively. Organization involves preparedness and attention to detail. It is crucial in the workspace because it aids in handling difficult tasks and achieving results within a specific amount of time.     
  4. Time Management: Prioritizing is essential in achieving results. Hence, time management is prioritizing your time for productive activities. It implies dwelling on tasks that are important and discarding the unnecessary ones. It is an effective way to curb unproductivity and laziness.
  5. Flexibility: Employees with the ability to adapt to changing forces are highly valued in any work environment. This is because flexible employees are patient and willing when it comes to new tasks and challenges thereby creating an atmosphere for change and growth. 

In Philippians 4:8, the Bible admonishes us to think on things that are admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy (paraphrased). Work productivity is excellent, praiseworthy, and admirable. SO, THINK ON THESE SKILLS.
