How to deal with the negative thoughts in your head

Your greatest enemy could be your thoughts. The thought of not being good enough, the thought that you are a failure, the thought that you are worthless…You know that specific thought that is your daily companion, you hide behind a smile but when you are left alone you are left with these thoughts.

In as much as I would love to motivate you and tell you good things about yourself – I can’t! I guess I don’t know you well enough to do that, so I’ll be lying and just sugar coating things. Which I couldn’t do even if you paid me to do so anyways.

Brace yourself for this; you are who your thoughts say you are (I know we like to say we are who God says we are but just stick around till the end)! Ehn, you heard me right. If your thoughts say you are a failure, then you might as well believe that you are a failure.

These are the voices in your head so chances are that they know you well enough. So now you know why you have to get rid of those thoughts in your head and not just getting rid of them but getting rid of them NOW!

The longer you entertain those thoughts the more you believe/become them. Even when you know how God views you from the scriptures and you keep believing your thoughts above God; God isn’t going to come force His thoughts on you. If the way God sees you doesn’t become the center of your focus, you will keep being who your thoughts say that you are. Moses thoughts kept limiting him – He believed that as a stammerer he couldn’t be used by God.

As a man thinketh in his heart so is he…

Three steps on how to deal with negative thoughts in your head;

  • Know how God sees you from the Scriptures; Jeremiah was being limited by his thought, he believed that his age was a limitation but God in Jeremiah 1:5 countered his thoughts saying “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.”
  • Think on Good things; Paul was aware of the limitations of our thoughts that is why he said in Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”
  • Watch who you hang out with; If you hang out with negative people you also become negative. Stick to people who bring out the best in you, of course, your friends and family should be able to tell you the truth but they should be able to know that you are a work in progress and that you are becoming all that God has ordained for you to be.

It all starts with knowing that these thoughts have been having a field day in your head, keep feeding them and they grow. Take conscious steps to starve them and weed them out of your life.

If you know anyone struggling with negativity/negative thoughts, please share with them.
