Five Food Options To Improve Sleep At Night

When it comes to rest, one of the most effective ways to fulfill that need is sleep.

Many people do not realize that a good sleep is almost as important as exercising. Due to factors such as poor sleep hygiene, lifestyle choices, work obligations and sleep disorders the amount of people leaning to intentional rest has drastically reduced.

This might not seem like the greatest problem, but it poses a challenge still, as sleep deprivation can be very detrimental to health and productivity.

Good diet has its effects on our general wellbeing. Some of its benefits include:

  1. It increases life span.
  2. It boosts health and vitality.
  3. Helps in the overall functioning of the digestive system.
  4. It improves memory and heart health.
  5. It strengthens bones and improves immunity.
  6. Good diet makes for more energy.
  7. It keeps organs like the eyes, skin, and teeth healthy.
  8. Responsible for improved heart health.

Over the years, research has shown that certain foods can also influence the quality of sleep when eaten just before going to bed. This is because most of these foods and vegetables are a source of melatonin -a hormone that regulates your internal clock and prepares the body for sleep. This means that these foods make for better sleeping and resting due to their nutritional components.

Here are five foods that enhance sleep:

1. Pasta: Pasta really should not be a surprising pick, but it is. It is light, white, and you basically eat it with a bunch of tomatoes and onions and other light foods or vegetables. With pasta, you are not stressing your digestive system.

2. Nuts: Another very unlikely one but still surprisingly convenient is nuts. Nuts such as cashew, almonds, and walnuts are good for sleep due to their nutrient compositions. Although, the research results are not conclusive.

3. Bananas: These are often considered a filling fruit option. Hence, it is used in smoothies, and with foods you want to eat for a filling meal. Eating bananas can improve the quality of your sleep.

4. Rice: This is another surprising option as most people avoid carbs when eating dinner. Rice is said to have a high glycemic index and foods with such compositions are known to help one fall asleep. Therefore, when eaten a few hours before going to bed, this can help with your sleep.

5. Warm milk: Warm milk helps with a plethora of health challenges. Milk contains four sleep-promoting compounds: tryptophan, calcium, vitamin D, and melatonin. This fact alone is more than enough reason why this is a very good option to aid sleep. The best part is that it can be taken alongside all the other options listed above.

Sleep is crucial to wellbeing, and when good sleep is compromised, it is not unusual to go the extra mile to ensure that you have the ample sleep you require. These foods have not been confirmed to cure sleeplessness. But I think they are worthy of a shot. Have you had any of this to put you to sleep?
