Creative Family Devotion Ideas

There is nothing as pristine as a family who seeks the Lord together. One of the most profound statements ever made concerning family and God is found in Joshua 24:15

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:15 NKJV

Some of the advantages of choosing to remain in the service of the Lord as a family is portrayed below:

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate.

Psalms 127:3‭-‬5 NKJV

Spending time with God as a family, helps the family, especially the children to be well steeped in God. No matter where they go and how old they get, you can be rest assured that their paths are ordered by the Lord. There are some salient creative ideas that can help you spice up your family devotion time. If you want to make your family, especially your children look forward to the family devotion time, here are some creative ideas for you:

  1. Memorize Scriptures together: The word of God is the center of family devotion. Memorizing scriptures together is a creative way in studying the word of God during your devotion time. The word of God says:

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

Psalms 119:11 NKJV

Hide God’s word in your heart by memorizing it.

  1. Take turns to share the word of God: Let everyone get an opportunity to share God’s word with others. This keeps everyone interested in family devotion.

  1. Dwell on the theme of the year or month: Use the theme of the month or the theme of the year as a subject of discussion in your family devotion. This will bring more understanding and deeper revelation to these subjects. Hence, making it interesting and interactive.
  2. Set aside a special time to worship and praise: You can set aside a day to worship and praise God in your family devotion. Usher your family into the deep presence of God through high praises because the atmosphere of praise is the atmosphere of Joy and rejoicing. Use this opportunity to appreciate God for all He has done and for all He will do.

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

Psalms 103:1‭-‬2 NKJV

  1. You can watch a short video together: Watching a short video clip together is fun and can stir up your family’s faith in God. You can also listen to a podcast during your family devotion. However, make sure that the video or podcast will be beneficial to everyone including the children. Pick subjects that are easy to understand for the benefit of everyone. The Bible says “Faith cometh by hearing.”

It is not enough to have a family devotion time; it is important that everyone enjoys the devotion time and looks forward to it. Having a solid family devotion time is a good way to build a faith-filled godly family.
