A Letter to Those Who Feel Alone

The last two years of the pandemic has taught most of us the importance of human interaction. Last year, most of had to deal with long-term isolation where we were not around family or friends due to coronavirus. From a holistic perspective, being alone is part of the human experience. Despite this reality, feeling alone can hurt a lot. I decided to write a letter to those who feel alone.

Dear Friend,

I know it can get overwhelming and life can feel so isolating. I have been there before. The place where you feel like no matter what you do, you will always be alone. Where you see happy couples all around and wonder where your life partner is. Where you feel like you do not belong in your friend circle. Where you feel like you have been abandoned by your family. Where you feel like you are dating someone cool and interesting and then they ghost you. Where you feel like you do not fit in with your coworkers. Where you feel like even God is not there with you. I know this place all too well.

I want to tell you that your feelings are valid, and you are also not alone in this place of loneliness. Know that no emotions or feelings can separate you from the love of God. Where humans will fail, God will reign forever. Do not let your loneliness consume your being. Use the time alone to hear from God and be in His presence. There will be some days where you feel like your prayers are falling on deaf ears and you do not have any place to turn. Please know in your spirit that God is with you always and He loves you so dearly.

Finding friends can be hard. Finding a spouse can be hard. Finding lifelong relationships can also be very hard. However, good things do not come easy. Often, they come in an uncomfortable package filled with trials, but we must hold on to the hope that the best is yet to come. Do not wallow is self-pity forever. Get up and move around. Befriend yourself and get comfortable in your own company. Get out of your house and take a walk. Sign up for a gym membership. Join that business association. Go to the restaurant alone. You just might bump into someone who’s alone and looking to meet other people.

Though you might feel alone, remember there are many others who yearn for someone like you to be in their lives. Stay encouraged.
