6 GUIDELINES TO FINDING THE PERFECT CAREER

Some people are just not wired for the typical 9-5 jobs as they are called. Don’t go putting a square peg in a round hole. It just won’t fit! Ever tried on a pair of new gorgeous shoes yet there was just something wrong with it you could not place your hands on it?

Oh, my dismay when I bought my Atmosphere court shoes! I can’t still place a hold on where I got it wrong. I tried working on the size, yet there was just something wrong about it. I guess now I get the concept of the cartoon Cinderella – The perfect leg for the perfect shoes.

Finding the perfect career is like finding a perfect pair of shoes, it either fits or it doesn’t. The thing about shoes is if they don’t fit they make you very uncomfortable, may cause blisters or a lot of other things. It doesn’t matter how long you have been on the job if it doesn’t fit – I think it is time to get away. Besides the fact that your productivity level may be affected by your lack of passion, I think finding fulfillment, living a life of impact are factors that you don’t want to compromise on.

Know That God Has The Ultimate Manual

Six, seven steps don’t work except you consult the one who has the manual. I know this illustration has been used several times before but imagine getting a techie phone without the manual – I know we sometimes find out its use without reading through the manual but many at times we discover that the phone can do more than we think the moment we flip through the manual. It has happened to me a couple of times, in fact, I have had to go on Google to find out things that were probably in the manual about my phone to get a specific function.

Here are six guidelines to help in finding the perfect career –

  • Take the test

Online career tests help you determine your strong points. More like doing a SWOT Analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities & Treat). It helps you to determine your strong points and what careers to possibly consider. If you love talking, for instance, you will probably make a great public speaker. Click here to take the test!

  • What would you love to do without being paid to do it

I can’t emphasize on this enough. Think about what you love/enjoy doing that you don’t mind if you are not paid for. Still continuing with the example of an individual who loves to talk, he/she would talk irrespective of being paid to do it or not. For such an individual public speaking as a career would be enjoyable. Money shouldn’t be a motivation for a dream career but doing what you love brings money.

  • Write out a plan

If you are someone like me that has big plans and different skills you may want to draw up a plan and connect all the dots together. Most times they can all be linked together. They should all come together to have a center of focus to which you can build your career on.

  • Get a mentor

Get someone experienced in your chosen career path that can help in shedding more light on it. In different careers there are areas of specialization and a mentor can walk you through this process.

  • Volunteer/Internship

Volunteer or be an Intern at a company that is in line with the career you have in mind. This could be an eye opener. As a matter of fact, you may also find out that you don’t love it there as such as you thought you would. This would also be a good avenue of knowing if you were in it for the money or not.

  • Decide

Decide that you won’t settle for a dull and uneventful life. Decide to quit that job and take the next step needed to propel you into your perfect career.

Like the name implies there is no hard and fast rule, these are just guidelines that can help in “Finding the Perfect Career”.

According to Shannon L. Alder “The moment you realize that you can have everything you want in life. However, it takes timing, the right heart, the right actions, the right passion and a willingness to risk it all. If it is not yours, it is because you really didn’t want it, need it or God prevented”.

Don’t get to the point where you realize that you could have done great things.

Live life Inspired and be an inspiration to others!
