10 Benefits of Note Taking You Should Know About

I love note taking, I love writing down things and making sure they are well-captured in words. I love the ability to coherently write down things in my notes.

I love being able to go back to things I have written in my journals, diaries, or notepads, and remembering why I wrote them, what I have done concerning them, and so on.

We all need to take notes at one point in time or another. As a student, part of what you do in school is to take down notes. By taking down notes, you write down what your teacher or lecturer says, and you go back to it to study as well as research more on it.

In addition, as a career person, you also need to take down notes for your work purposes. You take down notes in client meetings, staff meetings, and so on. When you take down notes, you jot down details and specifications of things you need to jot down and go back to them when you need to.

Furthermore, when you go to seminars and conferences, you write notes and jot down key points of what is being said or discussed.

Note taking has also taken another toll, you don’t necessarily have to have a physical note and paper before you take down notes with the numerous note taking apps that can now be downloaded on phones and other devices.

Note taking has a lot of benefits, and here and some of them you should know about:

  • It helps in remembering what had earlier been discussed: for instance, if you took notes when you were in a meeting with clients discussing the details of a job, your notes can help in remembering details of what was discussed during the meeting.
  • It helps us to define our thoughts in clear terms: for instance, if you are thinking about a concept you want to work on, by writing down the concept, you can define the concept in clear terms.
  • It improves our focus: whenever you write down something, let’s say in a meeting, your focus on that thing you are writing on improves.
  • It improves our attention to details: in addition, when you take down notes, your attention to the details of that thing you are writing on improves.
  • It engages your mind concerning what you are writing about.
  • It helps you organize your information: when you take down notes, you get to organize the information in a way that is suitable for you and that you will be able to better understand. The note makes more sense to you.
  • It is easy to revise because you took down the notes yourself.
  • It can serve as a proof of something later in the future.

Here are some tips for better note taking:

  • Write in a way you would understand when you go back to it
  • Be an active listener
  • Improve your handwriting
  • Don’t forget to note down the key points
  • Don’t forget to note down important details such as names, addresses, dates, specifications, etc.
  • Be orderly with your writing.
